Jailed radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh made waves after securing victory in the Lok Sabha elections after winning the Sri Khadoor Sahib parliamentary seat from Punjab. Amritpal, who rose to fame as Bhindranwale 2.0, was put in a tight spot after his mother claimed that her son was not a Khalistan supporter. Following his mother’s words, Amritpal official X account (formerly twitter) posted a statement distancing Amritpal from his mother’s words. However, Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu has said that “there is no way that Amritpal can say those words to his mother.”
“When he has already taken the oath, signed his declaration to serve the constitution, then why are we still asking this question. Amritpal signed the declaration, taking oath to uphold the constitution and believing in the constitution, and that’s exactly what his mother said” said Ravneet Bittu. He further urged the people to not put a rift in a family.
“Whoever is tweeting this is putting pressure on the parents. Amritpal cannot say these words to his mother. This is a big mischief, the people who were trying to control Amritpal, these are the same people who are trying to break the family” he said.
Amritpal Singh in his statement said that between Panth and family, he will always choose Panth and such kinds of comments should not be made by his family or by his followers. Notably, Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib, Giani Harpreet Singh, on Sunday, met jailed Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh's family after her mother's comments on Khalistan.
