There is an important update about FASTag. National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has made a change in the rules of FASTag from 17th February. As per the new rule, travelers recharging after reaching the toll plaza, may blacklist their FASTag and they will have to pay double toll.
Now, the travellers’ FASTag will be blacklisted if they recharged it at the toll booth. According to the new rules of NPCI, it will be necessary to recharge FASTag at least 60 minutes before reaching the toll. If recharge is done after reaching the toll booth or a few minutes before it, it will not work at that booth and people will have to pay double the toll in cash.
As per the rule, FASTag will not be able to get recharged immediately after crossing the toll booth. Drivers will have to wait for at least 10 minutes, only after that they will be able to recharge it.
If there is no balance in the FASTag, it may be blacklisted. Additionally, FASTag may also be blacklisted if the KYC is not updated. However, if FASTag is blacklisted and drivers recharge it within 10 minutes, then they will not be charged twice.
Additionally, if an account does not follow the NPCI guidelines, transactions will be declined with Error Code 176, which means that if a FASTag remains inactive beyond the permissible limit, the toll payment will not be processed.
How to activate FASTag?
- Visit the transport department website and check e-challan status.
- Enter registered vehicle number and check FASTag status.
- If deactivated, recharge first and maintain minimum balance.
- Verify the payment and after some time your FASTag will be activated.
