Sanghmitra Maurya, a BJP MP, has written to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, demanding that the matter be referred to the House's ethics committee.
In her letter to Birla, Sanghmitra Maurya, who represents Uttar Pradesh Badaun in the Lok Sabha, attached Nusrat Jahan's profile, in which she mentions Nikhil Jain as her husband. "An appropriate action be taken in accordance with relevant Lok Sabha procedure and/or the matter be referred to the Committee on Ethics for a thorough investigation into her illegal and ethical conduct," Maurya wrote to the Speaker on June 19, according to local news agency.
Maurya added, "Her media statement about her marital status contradicts her oath of membership in the Lok Sabha, which she took as Nusrat Jahan Ruhi Jain. As a result, her membership is effectively non-est in law."
The BJP leader also said that when taking the oath on June 25, 2019, Bashirhat MP Nusrat Jahan said her name was Nusrat Jahan Ruhi Jain and was dressed as a newlywed couple.
The BJP MP wrote, "In fact, when she was attacked by Islamists for marrying a non-Muslim man who wore sindoor, MPs from all parties rallied to her defense. According to claims in the media, Mamata Banerjee, CM was present for her reception."
Nusrat Jahan has a right to her personal life, according to Maurya, and no one should interfere with it. Maurya alleged,’’She deliberately gave incorrect information to the Lok Sabha Secretariat, committing unethical, illegal, and immoral behaviour. She cheated her electorate by providing false information, and this reflects poorly on parliament and its members."
Amit Malviya of the BJP asked her earlier this month about whether she lied to Parliament when she took the oath as Nusrat Jahan Ruhi Jain. Malviya stated that he was pressing the issue since Nusrat Jahan is an elected MP who is married to Nikhil Jain, according to Parliament records. Nusrat Jahan was also accused of making "contradictory" remarks about her marital status by West Bengal BJP vice president Jay Prakash Majumdar, who said the law should take its own course.

Nusrat Jahan said in a statement earlier this month that her marriage to Nikhil Jain is not legal, valid, or tenable, and that divorce is not an option. she said, "Because it was an interfaith marriage, it needed to be validated under India's Special Marriage Act, which was not done. According to the law, it is a relationship or a live-in relationship, not a marriage. As a result, the issue of divorce is not raised."
After making her political debut and winning the Lok Sabha elections in the same year, Nusrat Jahan married businessman Nikhil Jain in Bodrum, Turkey in 2019.
