Yoga Guru & Co-Founder of Patanjali Ayurveda, Baba Ramdev on Saturday sparked a row when his video allegedly making derogatory remarks against OBCs went viral on social media. Baba Ramdev was giving his sermons on Astha TV when he started to talk about casts. In the viral Baba Ramdev video, the Yoga Guru allegedly said that he belongs to the Agnihotri Brahaman community. However, the Yoga Guru sparked a row when he said that it is said that he belongs to the OBC community, and following he allegedly used a derogatory term against the OBCs.
Following Baba Ramdev's OBC remarks, #BoycottPatanjali started to trend on social media with netizens slamming the Yoga Guru for his indecent remarks. It is pertinent to mention here that Baba Ramdev-backed Patanjali was recently in another controversy over claims on its products.
In fact, the Supreme Court had cautioned Patanjali Ayurved against making "false" and "misleading" claims in advertisements about its medicines as cure of several diseases. "All such false and misleading advertisements of Patanjali Ayurved have to stop immediately. The court will take any such infraction very seriously...," a bench comprising justices Ahsanuddin Amanullah and Prashant Kumar Mishra orally observed while hearing a plea of the Indian Medical Association (IMA).
IMA had pointed out to several advertisements which allegedly projected the allopath and the doctors in poor light, saying that "disparaging" statements have also been made by firms, engaged in the production of ayurvedic medicines, to mislead the general public.
