A new study reveals that one shot of the Covishield vaccine developed by AstraZeneca-Oxford University is proficient in reducing the dangers of death in the recipient by nearly 80 per cent. The data was published by Public Health England on Monday, claiming that this was the first-ever study to determine the protection against mortality from the AstraZeneca vaccine.
For the study, researchers examined new symptomatic cases of covid between December and April, as well as people who died within 28 days of contracting the infection by vaccination status. People who got vaccinated with a single shot of the AstraZeneca vaccine were 55% protected against death, while those who took the Pfizer vaccine had received only 44% protection from a sone dose.
PHE explains, "Combined with the protection vaccines offer against becoming a case in the first place, this is equivalent to approximately 80% protection against mortality in individuals vaccinated with a single dose of either vaccine."

Recipients who got inoculated with the Pfizer vaccine had witnessed an improvement against mortality by 69 per cent for those who got their second dose at least a week before they tested positive. Further PHE adds that when this is combined with the estimated protection from getting the virus, the Pfizer vaccine is expected to offer the equivalent of 97 per cent protection against death in people who have had both doses.
Another report by PHE has shown that one dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine was 73 per cent effective in preventing hospitalisation among those aged 80 and over. On the other hand, the Pfizer vaccine was seen to be 93 per cent effective.

Dr Mary Ramsay, head of immunisation at PHE, in a statement stated, “Getting your vaccine will significantly reduce your risk of dying or becoming seriously ill from Covid-19. It will also significantly reduce your chances of getting infected and infecting others. It is vital to get both doses of your vaccine when you are offered it.”
