One of the Nirbhaya's Rape Convicts files a curative petition in Supreme Court

After the court issued a death warrant against all four convicts in  2012 Nirbhaya's Delhi gang-rape case, convict Vinay Sharma has filed a curative petition in the Supreme Court saying I was just 19 then.

A curative petition is the last judicial retreat accessible for redressal of grievances. It is to be decided by the judges in-chamber.

On the other hand, mercy petition is filed before the President who has the power to convert it to life imprisonment.

The case is pertained to the gang-rape of a woman by six persons on a moving bus in the National Capital Region on the cold night of December 16, 2012.

However, the victim was later given the name Nirbhaya, who died at a  hospital in Singapore, where she had been airlifted to undergo medical treatment.  

Convict Vinay Sharma's lawyer AP Singh has said a curative petition in the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the death warrant. All four convicts of the Nirbhaya's gang-rape case have already been sentenced to hang till death on January 22 at 7 am in the Tihar jail.
