On Monday, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) informed the Supreme Court that the optional Class 12th Board examination 2021 would be conducted for those candidates who are not satisfied with their assessment. These exams are expected to be held between August 15, 2021 – September 15, 2021. 

The Board has also said that any disputes regarding computation of results done by its assessment policy Class 12th students would be referred to a Committee constituted by CBSE. 

The board has further announced that the examinations for private, patrachar and compartment would be conducted in such a manner that they would fall within the assessment policy for the academic year 2019-2020 as approved by the Supreme Court last year in the case of Amit Bathla and Ors vs CBSE.

The CBSE in an additional affidavit said, “Regarding the date before which the optional examination for the candidates who are not satisfied with their assessment with the policy, the examinations for such candidates shall be conducted any time between August 15, 2021, to September 15, 2021, subject to conducive situation.”

The board said that the policy for the tabulation of marks for Class 12th Board Examination 2021 has been formulated by the CBSE to ensure standardization of marks, as marks of Class 11 and Class 12 components would be awarded at the school level. 

Further, the affidavit read, “Therefore, they will strictly not be comparable across schools due to variations in the quality of question papers, the evaluation standard and processes, the mode of conduct of exams, etc.”

After the cancellation of exams, the CBSE has developed an assessment process with theory and practical components. On June 17, the CBSE has released the assessment process for the class 12th board examination. 

The CBSE has told for Class XII result marks from three best performing subjects out of five will be considered. Thirty percent weightage will come from class 10th would be summed up with thirty percent weightage from class 11th and forty percent weightage from class 12th. CBSE would be following the 30:30:40 formula for awarding marks/grades to Class 12th students. According to this formula, 30 percent weightage will be given to class 10th and 11th final results and 40 percent to 12th pre-board tests.
