A change in weather patterns is being observed all across Punjab. The state is experiencing intense cold and people are also facing challenges due to dense fog in the mornings and evenings. It is particularly affecting transportation.
In January, a thick blanket of fog has enveloped Punjab and Chandigarh, severely impacting visibility and disrupting daily life. With zero visibility recorded in cities like Amritsar, Pathankot, and Chandigarh, the transportation network, including air travel, has been chaotic.
Meteorologist Dr. Pavneet Kaur Kingra, the head of the department, stated that an orange alert has been issued for the next two days. She also mentioned that after this, a yellow alert has been announced for January 9. From January 10 to 12, light drizzle is expected in various parts of Punjab. Previously, an orange alert was issued due to dense fog on 2nd January and a yellow alert for 3rd January.
She advised people to take precautions when stepping out of their homes and be mindful of fog while traveling. Additionally, she urged everyone to stay protected from the cold by covering themselves adequately when going outdoors. Morning and evening walks should be avoided for the time being.
She has also warned travelers to exercise caution during dense fog and advised them to drive slowly. In order to stay safe, people are encouraged to wear warm clothing when stepping out.
