A new government will form in India under Narendra Modi’s leadership for the third consecutive time. However, this time in the Lok Sabha elections, BJP did not manage to acquire a single seat from Punjab. BJP also does not have any seat from Punjab in the Rajya Sabha. Despite this, there is a strong discussion about Ravneet Singh Bittu, who was the BJP candidate from Ludhiana, getting a place in the cabinet.
Talking to the media about this, Bittu himself has confirmed becoming a minister. Bittu said, “Our aim is now the 2027 Vidhan Sabha elections.” Talking about the assembly elections, it is important to note that while BJP could not win in any parliamentary constituency, it still managed to garner its highest ever voteshare in the state, 18.5%, with or without an alliance partner. BJP’s candidates also came first in as many as 24 Assembly segments in the Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Bathinda, Ferozepur and Patiala constituencies.
Bittu had left the Congress while being Ludhiana’s MP and joined the BJP. The son of former Punjab CM, Beant Singh, Bittu has been a member of parliament on three consecutive occasions, once from Anandpur Sahib, and twice from Ludhiana.
