During an address on the 13th convocation of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Agartala, the Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu said the New Education Policy (NEP) objective is to make India a knowledge superpower across the world. He also stressed on the need that India should once again become Vishwa Guru in the realm of education and show what we can achieve.
Mr Venkaiah Naidu said the NEP takes inspiration and is made by the ancient Indian education system and attempts to make Indian education holistic, multi-disciplinary, and practical.
“Our education was practical, wholesome, and complementary to life”, he said.
Urging the higher education institutions and universities, Mr Naidu has asked them to grow India into a hub of knowledge and innovation. He also urged the institutes to progress in research fields by taking up various topics and also deliver radical results.
The Vice President said Indian educational system needs to be active now, "Students, researchers and academicians, therefore, cannot afford to remain in a world of status quo. They have to constantly learn, update themselves, and innovate every day”.
He added, “One who learns and adapts better will thrive.”
It is time for the universities, IITs, NITs and other higher education institutions to reorient their teaching methods, he added and provide the teachers with new pedagogical skills.
Mr Naidu told the students of India’s great civilisational values of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam asked them to apply these values in everyday life. “Sharing will give you more happiness”, he said.

Mr Naidu also urged the educational institutions to enhance student's knowledge by teaching them about India’s ancient culture and heritage.
The Vice President also hailed NIT Agartala for being ranked within 100 best engineering institutes under the National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF).
