Who may get a Congress ticket from the Ferozepur constituency?
As per reports, Congress has delayed the announcement of candidates for the Freozepur constituency due to infighting among leaders. If reports are true then the Congress is trying to rope in BJP leader Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi and field him from the Ferozepur constituency. Before joining the BJP, Sodhi was earlier in the Congress Party and has been a Member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Guru Har Sahai in Ferozepur district of Punjab since 2002.
Another major name in the race to get a Congress ticket is Sher Singh Ghubaya. Sher Singh Ghubaya was a member of the Lok Sabha, elected from the Ferozepur constituency of Punjab in 2009 and 2014, as a member of Akali Dal. However, he is currently a member of the Indian National Congress.
Raminder Singh Awla is another major name who may get the party's ticket to fight Lok Sabha Elections 2024 in Ferozepur. Awla is a former member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly from the Jalalabad constituency. He won the 2019 Jalalabad by-election on the Indian National Congress ticket by defeating Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Raj Singh Dibbipura.
Notably, Congress tried to break the groupism prevailing in Ludhiana by fielding an away candidate and its state chief Raja Warring. Warring will be at loggerheads with BJP's Ravneet Bittu in Ludhiana. Congress did not express its faith in Bharat Bhushan and hence did not give him the ticket to the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
It is pertinent to mention here that sources in the known development have revealed that the BJP is also in talks with Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi and Raminder Singh Awla as the saffron party has also not announced its Ferozepur candidate.
