Over 200 protesters detained by Delhi police post tractor parade debacle

A petition has been filed in Supreme Court on Wednesday, January 27, that insists on setting up of a commission and headed by retired judge of the apex court to look into the violence that erupted yesterday.

After the protesting farmers entered Red Fort and hoisted two flags, Delhi police have detained around 200 protesters on the charges of rioting, damaging public property, assaulting police personnel, as reported by The Indian Express.

Delhi police while speaking to the media have said that they are making arrests after verification and 22 FIRs have been registered so far. As per the police, over 230 police personnel were injured while containing the unrest at Red Fort, Delhi on Republic day.

A day after the peaceful protest turned amok and when the farmers broken the barricades and attacked police personnel in response to the tear gas canisters fired by the police, the situation remains tense in Delhi.

Security has been beefed up at Delhi. Internet was shut down yesterday afternoon. A petition has been filed on Wednesday, January 27, that insists on setting up of a commission and headed by retired judge of the apex court to look into the violence that erupted yesterday.

The plea also submits that FIRs be filed and action be taken against those who dishonored the National Flag. However, the claims regarding desecration of tri-color are unsubstantiated.

After 11 rounds of talks with the union government and more than two months of protests, the situation at the border remained tense.
