'The Calm Before The Storm'; well, this is what is witnessed amid back-to-back meetings of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and PM Modi, with top security officials in India over the cowardly Pahalgam Terror Attack in Kashmir. For those who still don't know, 27-28 people died in the cowardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday afternoon. More than 20 people were said to be injured in this attack that took place at 2.45 pm on Tuesday in Pahalgam's Baisaran Valley.
Lashkar-e-Taiba's wing, The Resistance Front i.e. TRF, has taken responsibility for the attack. The terrorists fled after the firing. As per reports, two foreign terrorists and two local terrorists were involved in the Pahalgam attack. Meanwhile, the army has killed 2 terrorists trying to infiltrate Uri. As multiple Pahalgam Attack Videos have gone viral, PM Modi returned to New Delhi on April 23 from his official visit to Saudi Arabia. PM Modi had to cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia. While High-Level security meetings are going on in New Delhi and in Kashmir, the question arises how can India retaliate and what are the options for New Delhi? Below is what you need to know-
Pahalgam Attack: How can India retaliate?
Praveen Swami, Consulting Editor for National Security, during a discussion at The Print's YouTube channel, said, "India has gone about retaliating in one or two ways. It's either publicly staged military operations at the Line of Control (LoC) after the 2016 Uri Attack or it used jets after the Pulwama Terror Attack. In either case, it did so publicly or it has used covert means to attack terrorists, to attack camps, and the third tactic is to conduct shelling on Pakistani Military bases along the LoC. But all come with pros and cons."
"After Pulwama, there was a decline in violence in Kashmir. But it also imposed enormous strains on India. Risking a full-scale conventional war is a big decision to take. The second means that is being used to hotten-up the line of control. It will also create problems for the Indian Army. Because a hot LoC means it's easier to infiltrate under the sheiling from the other side. The third option is covert means, to target Pakistan, Tit-For-Tat. If you can eliminate top leaders, that will be effective as it will inflict some fear."
"In Pakistan, where anyway-everyway some bomb explodes or some train is being attacked, if one more bomb blows up, it doesn't have the same impact as a bomb blowing up in Kashmir. But for covert operations, you cannot take credit for it publicly."
