It's most probably the final nail in the coffin for Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan as his main ally Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) has struck deal with the opposition Pakistan People's Party (PPP) ahead of a crucial no-confidence motion vote in the first week of April. As per Pakistan Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid, the vote on the no-confidence motion will take place on April 3. However, with Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) losing its main ally, the Pakistan Prime Minister has lost its majority. Now, it has been revealed that Imran Khan will tender his resignation ahead of the no-confidence motion vote.
Now, as per News 18, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan will resign from the cabinet as his party PTI has lost its majority. Imran Khan's resignation from cabinet means PTI will lose its majority in the National Assembly, the lower house of Pakistan parliament, and opposition strength would surge to 180.
Not only this, but the report also states that Imran Khan will resign from his Prime Ministerial pose outside the parliament ahead of the no-confidence motion in a face-saving attempt. It is pertinent to mention here that no Prime Minister in Pakistan's history has been ever removed through a no-confidence motion.
Those who are wondering how Imran Khan can save his Prime Ministerial pose can read further:
In order to remain in power, Imran Khan needs 172 votes in the 342-member house. Imran Khan has blamed a 'foreign-funded conspiracy' for trying to topple his government. China is a long-time supporter and Pakistan, a traditional ally of the West, abstained from voting as the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly reprimanded Russia for invading Ukraine.
It has been speculated that Imran Khan's downfall started when in an interview he said 'absolutely no' to giving bases to American soldiers in Pakistan. Following that, Imran Khan also went loggerheads with the Pakistan Army chief after he delayed the appointment of the new ISIS chief. The delay was such that Pakistan's ISPR had to issue a notification on the appointment of a new ISIS chief with the approval of Imran Khan. Imran Khan was reluctant to remove the old ISIS chief as he was considered close to the Pakistan Prime Minister. Under Imran Khan's regime, Pakistan's economy hit a new low as well.
