The Pakistan Authorities, amid escalating tensions with India, have indefinitely suspended the Samjhauta Express, however, India has not been informed about the same.
A statement released by the Foreign office in Islamabad said that the 'Samjhauta Express' train service has been suspended 'till further notice'. This move by Pakistan authorities has come amid the heightened Indo-Pak tension.
India had responded in a very firm stance to the Pulwama terror attack revoking the 'Most Favoured Nation' status to Pakistan, raising the tarrif on Pakistani goods by 200 per cent and stopping the Indian share of river water from flowing to Pakistani territory.
"The operation of Samjhauta Express has been suspended today (Thursday) in view of the prevailing tensions between Pakistan and India," said Pakistan's foreign office spokesperson in a statement.
"Samjhauta Express will resume its operations as soon as the security situation improves between India and Pakistan," Pakistan's foreign office added, though he didn't give any specific date for resuming the train service.
The train service was scheduled to depart for India at 8:00 am (Local time) but was cancelled.
The bi-weekly train 'Samjhauta Express' departs from Lahore in Pakistan and from Delhi in India.
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has denied any information from Pakistan about the cancellation of the train and said that the train will run as per schedule.
"We have not yet received any instructions from authorities so far as running of Samjhauta Express is concerned. So, it will run as planned and as per the schedule," he said.
The passengers have been left stranded as they have not been informed by Pakistan before the cancellation.
