Abuzar Madhu, a Pakistan-based artist and performer was recently arrested by the Lahore Police. He was casually waiting for a rickshaw in the wee hours of the morning when police came and took him to the police station. His bag and belongings were checked as if he is a terrorist or any other dangerous suspect.
Madhu has spent a night in the lock-up of the Model Town police station and is now out and safe. One must be curious about the reason behind his arrest, it was his ‘very long hair’.
When Madhu’s photo behind the bars went viral on social media, netizens were furious. Alia Haider, a local activist tweeted, “Artist and performer Abuzar Madhu was arrested last night by SHO because he was walking on the streets of Lahore. He was suspected and his bags were checked. He was later, taken to the police station.”

Abuzar’s friend Natasha Javed tweeted a thread of tweets related to the incident on the micro-blogging application.

One of the users commented, “Matlab now we can’t even grow our hair in this country”, another user said, “I’m disgusted” and the third user said, “Meanwhile, I called police to tell them about a mentally ill person trying to break into our house and harassing people in the streets and they said that not our problem, but they are concerned with long hair.” Another user commented that this incident scares her so much.
