A massive search operation was launched in the Ajnala sector near the India-Pakistan border in Punjab after an unmanned aerial vehicle (drone) was reportedly sighted in the area on Friday nigh.
The drone was seen when the 32 Battalion of BSF was on patrol near BOP Old Sundergarh.
During the patrol, the Battalion saw a drone hovering in the sky after which soldiers opened fire at it and the drone was forced back. After driving away the drone, a search operation was launched in the Sundergarh village, however, nothing was found.
It is feared that the drone might have smuggled weapons or drugs in the area, however, BSF has not confirmed anything yet.
This is not the first time that a drone has crossed the Indian borders. Last year, weapons and narcotics were smuggled inside India by using drones.

Last month, a Pakistani drone had entered the Indian territory in Punjab. The drone that came from the Pakistani side was sighted at Dinda post close to Bamial along the Indo-Pak international border. As the drone was spotted, BSF jawans opened fire at it and the drone was forced back into Pakistan after which a massive search operation was launched but nothing was recovered.
Recently, on May 14, BSF had recovered an AK-47 rifle, a pistol and some ammunition dropped by a Pakistani drone in Jammu and Kashmir. The arms and ammunition cache were found wrapped in yellow-colored polythene lying on the ground.
The drone was suspected to have flown back across the Pakistani border after it dropped the weapons.
