A dreadful incident came into limelight on April 16, when a mob beat two sadhus and their driver to death in Palghar, Maharashtra. As per reports, two Sadhus, 70-year-old Kalpavrishka Giri Maharaj and 35-year-old Sushil Giri Maharaj along with their driver 30-year-old Nilesh Telgade associated with the Juna Akhara were on their way from Mumbai to Gujarat to give Samadhi to another Sadhu.
At Gadakchinchale village, a violent crowd of over more than 100 people attacked them. The villagers deemed them as thieves and started attacking them. People of the Sadhu community say that this village is tribals dominated and most of them are Christians while some are Muslims.
Locals also said that out of fear of the tribals, the police handed over the Sadhus to the mob which later beat up those Sadhus to death with sticks. Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad President Mahant Narendra Giri hinted at a bigger conspiracy over the murder of the Sadhus
Former CM of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis demanded a High-Level Enquiry of the incident. UP CM Yogi Adityanath also talked to Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray over the lynching of Hindu Sadhus.
