Panjab '95 which features Diljit Dosanjh in the lead role is undoubtedly among the most awaited movie of 2025. However, Panjab '95 has been marred with controversies and as a result, its release has been halted not only in India but also abroad. Recently, Panjab '95 Director Honey Trehan confirmed that CBFC has suggested at least 120 cuts in the films. As a result, the makers decided to release the movie abroad and not in India. For this, even Diljit Dosanjh shared Panjab '95 Teaser on his social media handles, but all of a sudden the next day, the Punjabi singer announced that the movie will not be released even for the international audience.
Recently, Honey Trehan in an interview with BBC Punjabi talked about the 'brainless cuts' that were suggested by India's Censor Board. Trehan alleged that CBFC suggested removing the name of Jaswant Singh Khalra on whom the movie is based. "I cannot remove Jaswant Singh Khalra sir's name from his biopic. It is like a crime. It cannot be accepted. I don't know what is the issue and why aren't they coming forward and saying this is the issue," said Honey Trehan.
Below is an excerpt from the interview-
Honey Trehan revealed that the CBFC watched the movie 7 times. "At first the CBFC suggested only 1 cut. We accepted it. But with time a total of 120 cuts were suggested which does not make any sense to me because those are brainless cuts. I cannot remove Jaswant Singh Khalra sir's name from his biopic. It is like a crime. It cannot be accepted. I don't know what is the issue and why aren't they coming forward and saying this is the issue. If the problem is legitimate, then I am totally fine to accept it. I follow the law. If anybody has a problem, I am ready to fight in a court of law. But, they are not even letting us go to the court," said Honey Trehan.
Why was Panjab'95 not released even for international audience?
Honey Trehan further added, "I was also excited for its release abroad. Everything was final. Even Diljit shared a teaser of it. But, after that, the Producer got a call from somewhere and then he said that it could not be released abroad. As a result, the film was again halted from being released. I feel like, we don't need any certificate to release the movie internationally. But, stopping the movie's release even internationally is not right. We don't even know who is doing it. Many CBFC members appreciated us for making the movie but informed us that their hands were tied. There must be someone at a higher position who is abusing their post."
For the unversed, Ronnie Screwvala has produced the Diljit Dosanjh starrer movie Panjab' 95.
