A scuffle broke out between the students and the police. The students were going to surround the Vice Chancellor's residence. As per the information received, the students who were fighting for the demand of Senate elections had planned to surround the Vice Chancellor's residence today. The students gathered and left for the VC residence, but in the last minute, they changed their plans. After this, they headed towards the Law Auditorium.
At that time, the Punjab Vision-2047 program was going on there. Many ministers and businessmen of Punjab had reached it. Therefore, the police tried to stop them from going there, but the students were not in favor of backing down. During this, the police and the university security started stopping them.
In the end, the police lathicharged on the students. This further infuriated the students. After this, DSW reached the spot. He told the students that he would arrange a meeting with the VC, but the students wanted to meet the VC at the same spot. When their demand was not met, the students went around the entire campus and sat on a dharna.
PU Senate Elections
For the unversed, the tenure of the Senate ended in October this year but no notification has been issued. As per Dainik Bhasker, a Senate timeline is 4 years. The tenure of the previous Senate ended in October, but the notification for the election has not been issued yet. Whereas, the rule is that the notification should be issued 240 days before the election The new Senate is elected before the term of the old Senate ends, but this time it did not happen.
All the political parties of Punjab are united regarding the PU Senate elections. All the senior leaders of the Congress and BJP have announced to support the protest of the students. On behalf of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), CM Bhagwant Mann wrote a letter to the Vice-President on November 12 to conduct elections.

The Senate represents teachers, university employees, students, nominated members of the state, and other stakeholders, who together make decisions on the educational, financial, and administrative policies of the university.
