In a bizarre development, a Panjab University student became a victim of cybercrime after miscreants created her fake profile on a dating app and uploaded her morphed photos. Not only this, but the cybercriminals also leaked the Panjab University student's phone number on the fake profile. After the student came to know about her fake dating profile, she reached out to a Chandigarh Police Station.
After her complaint, a case was registered against the unknown person in the cyber crime police station under sections of fraud and attempting to insult the modesty of a woman. The Chandigarh Police have already started an investigation and are on the hunt to nab the culprits.
As per reports, the woman is a student of Panjab University and lives in Sector 8. The girl got scared after seeing her photo on a dating app and thereafter, she informed the police about the matter. As of now, the Police are finding out from which IP address the fake profile was created. The Chandigarh Police are also taking technical assistance to find the accused.
Notably, the girl reached the police last Thursday, after which the police immediately registered the case. At the same time, action to remove fake profiles on the app was also started. Sections 419 and 509 of IPC have been imposed in the case.
