Following Captain Amarinder Singh’s announcement of a new party, the Punjab minister and Navjot Singh Sidhu’s close aide Pargat Singh has challenged former CM for upcoming state elections in 2022. Pargat Singh contests from Jalandhar Cantt constituency in elections.
“If Captain wants to, he can contest elections from Jalandhar Cantt constituency and see what happens,” said the Punjab minister.
The cabinet minister currently holds the portfolio of School Education Higher Education Sports & Youth Services NRI Affairs.
Mr Singh’s statement comes in response to Capt Amarinder’s announcement of fielding a strong contender against Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Pargat Singh also stated that leaders should resolve the issues of people of Punjab. “Work should be done for the betterment of Punjab.”
He further asserted that “he is a player and a player never backs off from any challenge.”
Pargat Singh is not the only Congress leader challenging Mr Amarinder for Punjab assembly elections. Earlier, Navjot Kaur Sidhu, the Congress MLA and wife of PPCC head Navjot Singh Sidhu
had asked Capt Amarinder to run against her in Amritsar East constituency. “He would who people love and trust more,” she stated.

Notably, Pargat Singh is a close aide of Navjot Sidhu and have been instrumental in the removal of Amarinder Singh from CM’s chair. After Sidhu, Pargat was the first to publically
speak against Capt, influencing other MLAs and Ministers to do the same.
Pargat on several occasions has targeted Capt over unfulfilled poll promises, sacrilege cases and drug menace in Punjab.
Meanwhile, in what could be seen as a major development in Punjab’s political spectrum, Captain Amarinder will be launching his own party ahead of the 2022 Punjab elections. He has
also confirmed that he will ally with Bharatiya Janata Party if the farmers’ issues are resolved.
Capt and BJP’s tie in Punjab can prove fatal to Congress and other parties if the ex-CM succeeds in ending farmer agitation.
