In its efforts to combat the illegal drug trade, the Pathankot Police achived another remarkable success in their attempts by apprehending two individuals near Lamini Government College Pathankot as they were attempting to sell Charas, confiscating 1.20 Kg of the Charas and their car (Ritz) which was used to transport the contraband.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Pankaj (29) of village Ranjitpur Tehsil Bishnah District Jammu J&K, now Bhadroa Himachal Pradesh, and Stanley Joseph (23) of Alvan Girls School, Caps Mission Road, Pathankot.
Divulging more details to the press, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Pathankot, Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said that the police received a tip-off that two individuals were attempting to sell charas near Lamini Government College Pathankot. The police party led by SHO Division No. 1 quickly responded to the tip-off and apprehended the both of the individuals, who had in their possession 1.20 Kg of Charas. The police also seized the vehicle (Ritz) which was being used to transport the Charas.
The arrest was made possible due to the vigilance of the police personnel on duty and the information received from sources. The police personnel were able to arrive at the spot and apprehend the accused before they could distribute the Charas
As per initial interrogation that the two accused admitted their wrongdoings and told that they had acquired the Charas from Jammu and Kashmir with the aim of generating a financial gain from its sale in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab.
SSP Khakh added that a case has been filed against them under various sections of the NDPS Act at Police Station Division No. 1. The police are presently engaging in further inquiry to ascertain the origin of the Charas.
The accused will be brought before the local court, with a remand request to be granted in order to facilitate a full investigation and unravel the entire supply chain.
