In a bizarre development, nine patients admitted for treatment at the Navjeevan Center, located within the Kapurthala Civil Hospital premises, escaped during the night. After the incident, chaos ensued at the civil hospital. Security guards and staff nurses deployed at the Navjeevan Center attempted to locate the patients but were unable to find them. However, one patient was caught by security personnel after a chase. The search for the remaining patients is still ongoing.
Regarding the matter, SMO Dr. Indu Sethi stated that the patients left voluntarily and mentioned that individuals addicted to drugs are admitted only with their consent.
According to Dr. Aman Sood, in charge of the Navjeevan Center, 7–8 patients escaped from the facility. An investigation is underway to determine where the negligence occurred. The center is manned by a security guard and a staff nurse. If staff negligence is found, strict action will be taken. Meanwhile, SMO Dr. Indu Sethi reiterated that patients are admitted voluntarily and an inquiry into the incident is ongoing.
