British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has confirmed that he
will not introduce any new covid guidelines in the UK prior to the Christmas celebration.
"We don't think today that there is enough evidence to
justify any tougher measures before Christmas," he said in a video posted
on social media.
"We can't rule out any further measures after
Christmas," he added. "We continue to monitor Omicron very closely and
if the situation deteriorates we will be ready to take action if needed."
The UK reported 90,629 coronavirus cases in the latest
24-hour period. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country reaches
11,542,143, according to official figures released on Tuesday.
Boris Johnson wrote on Twitter, “I wanted to confirm that
people can go ahead with their Christmas plans. But we’re keeping a constant
eye on the data and can’t rule out any further measures after Christmas.”
On the other hand, On Tuesday, the co-founder of Microsoft
Bill Gates warned people against the current omicron surge in various places of
the world. He posted a series of tweets mentioning his close friends who fell
prey to Omicron.
He also informed that due to the threat posed by Omicron, he
has canceled most of his holiday plans. Additionally, he mentioned that the
world could possibly witness the 'worst surge' ever.
