Jalandhar, February 6 - With the concerted efforts of Chief Engineer K.S. Saini, village Jamsher is all set to witness the biggest ever water supply scheme at an outlay of Rs. Two crores in the coming days.
Divulging the details, Executive Engineer of the department of water supply and sanitation Vijay Kumar said that village Jamsher is having a population of about 10,000 and has seen a lot of expansion lately. With around 1700 houses, Jamsher is one of the largest villages of the district, therefore a new water supply scheme was chalked out to cater to the needs of its inhabitants. He further added that the scheme had a bottleneck as it required a beneficiary share of Rs. 11 lakh. The executive engineer said that the Chief Engineer K.S. Saini personally visited the village and interacted with the residents to sensitize them to join the scheme by paying the beneficiary share. With constant counseling, the residents came forward, and subsequently, within a few days, the department had collected a sum of Rs. 6.50 lakh as beneficiary share.
Giving more information about the project, the executive engineer Vijay Kumar stated that a new reservoir and two new tube-wells would be installed under the project besides attaching the old reservoir with this new water supply scheme. He said that under the project all 1700 houses would be provided with functional tap water connections as there are currently 798 connections functional in the village. He added that the new reservoir with a capacity of two lakh liters of water to be constructed in the village.
Pointing out further, Chief Engineer North Zone K.S. Saini said that the project is becoming reality just because of the cooperation of the people of Jamsher. He said that without the beneficiary share it was impossible to go ahead with the scheme and that was the reason, he had visited the village to sensitize the people about the benefits of this water supply scheme. The Chief Engineer mentioned that the villagers were made aware of the contamination in groundwater and the need for this project to ensure portable drinking water. As the department has collected more than 50 percent of beneficiary share, now the project is going to start soon, he added.
