Two unidentified assailants opened fire at the Delhi house of Punjab's established liquor businessman and former Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Deep Malhotra in the Punjabi Bagh area of West Delhi.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening at around 6:45 pm, said the Delhi Police DCP (West) Vichitra Veer. Police have recovered empty bullet shells from the crime scene. A case has been registered against unknown shooters, and police are further investigating the matter.
The police investigation also revealed that two armed men had come on foot outside Deep Malhotra's house and opened fire. After committing the crime, the assailants ran away from there. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the incident.
Senior officials said they didn’t have any information regarding any threat calls received prior to the incident by the complainant. An FIR has been registered against the shooters by the Delhi Police, and a search is underway to nab them.

Deep Malhotra is one of the established liquor businessmen of Delhi and Punjab. He has been MLA of Akali Dal from Faridkot in 2012. His ancestral home is also in Faridkot. However, after this, he did not get the ticket to contest the election from Faridkot. According to sources, during the time of former CM Captain Amarinder Singh in Punjab, Ponty Chadha had control over the liquor business. To break it, Sukhbir Badal had brought Deep Malhotra. After this, he got the ticket from Akali Dal.

Liquor businessman Deep Malhotra and his son Gautam Malhotra were on the radar of the Electoral Directorate in the money laundering case related to the Delhi liquor scam. At the same time, his son Gautam was also arrested.
