India and the world are all set to witness a rare celestial event on February 28, 2025. On the evening of 28 February 2025, all the seven planets of the solar system will be seen together at night. This is a rare and wonderful astronomical event, called the Great Planetary Alignment. Saturn, Mercury, Neptune, Venus, Uranus, Jupiter, and Mars - all the planets will appear together in a straight line.

Usually, some planets are on the same side of the Sun at the same time, but it is very rare for all the planets to come together in a line. All these planets revolve around the sun in different circles. Due to the different orbits of the planets, they do not appear in a straight line. This extraordinary alignment, which will not occur again until 2040, will reach its peak on February 28, 2025.

7 Planets alignment: Best time to watch in India

For Indians, the best time to observe this celestial spectacle is shortly after sunset, around 45 minutes after the sun dips below the horizon. It is important to find a location with minimal light and pollution to maximise visibility.

What happens when a new star is formed?

To see all seven planets, you have to be at the right time and place. The rising and setting times of the planets and their positions in the sky depend on the Earth's location. You can know the correct time and place for your location by using online tools.

There are three internet tools on which you can see this view... Time and Date, Stellarium, and Sky Tonight. Time and Date is an interactive tool that allows you to set the date for viewing, including the rise and sunset times for each planet, where in the sky they can be seen, and how difficult they will be to see.

Stellarium has a web tool that shows you the positions of all the planets. Sky Tonight is a free mobile app that estimates your location using your phone's hardware and shows the real-time positions of celestial objects on a map above the sky.
