Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday evening addressed the nation and spoke about various issues: from Omicron to vaccination of children.
The PM started the speech by wishing people on Christmas. He then urged the people to be cautious about the new Covid variant– Omicron. Modi said while people shouldn't panic, safety should be the top priority.
Modi also said that there are a decent number of oxygen beds available around the country. “Our capability to deal with health emergencies has gone up. We have a decent number of oxygen beds,” he said.
He also spoke about the vaccination, revealing how India started working on vaccines a long time ago.
“Today, 61% of the adult population of the nation is fully vaccinated,” Prime Minister said.
He said some states where tourists turn up the most have already achieved 100% vaccination.
“All this reflects our team work and dedication to deal with coronavirus,” Modi remarked.
The Prime Minister said while India is getting back to normalcy and economic activity is also recovering, people shouldn't forget that the pandemic is still not over.
He also announced that children from the age of 15 to 18 will also be vaccinated from January 03.
“This will give protection to the students going to school and colleges,” Modi said.
Modi also announced that frontline health workers and citizens above the age of 60 will be given booster doses.
“Frontline health workers will be given booster doses from Jan 10. Also, citizens above 60 years of age with comorbidities will be given booster dose after consultations from the doctor,” he said.
