September 17 marks PM Modi's birthday as he turns 70 today. A majority of people on Twitter have lauded PM Narendra Modi's efforts in curbing COVID-19 across the country, handling the India-China situation among other things. On the other hand, netizens on Twitter have marked September 17 as National Unemployment Day and the trend has gone viral.
This is also the day when people celebrate Vishwakarma Puja, who is considered to be a Hindu god and a divine architect.
Netizens this year have come together to celebrate National Unemployment Day in an ironic way and as such the hashtag #NationalUnemploymentDay has been trending on Twitter. However, 2.54 million tweets using the hashtag '#NationalUnemploymentDay' had been posted on Twitter.
The backdrop to National Unemployment Day aka National Berozgar Day comes after India registered the steepest contraction of its GDP post Independence for the April-June quarter of the current financial year. As per the data released by the National Statistics Office (NSO), India slumped 23.9% down as compared to the previous quarter (Jan-March) where it registered a growth of 3.1%.
