Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched Ujjwala scheme 2.0, the second phase of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojna (PMUY). The scheme was launched virtually by PM Modi in Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by many politicians including Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma.
Ujjwala 1.0 was launched by Prime Minister Modi from Ballia, also in Uttar Pradesh. During the first phase around 1.4 crores, LPG connections were provided to beneficiaries, before March 2020.

According to the spokesman, the first phase of the scheme benefitted 1,47,43,862 LPG cylinders beneficiaries and he added the families which were left during the first phase would be benefitted during the second.

What is Ujjwala Scheme?
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojna was launched in the year 2016 to provide Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) connections to the five crore women, who fall under the Below Poverty Line (BPL), during the first phase of the scheme.
In 2018, the scheme was amended and women belong to seven more categories – SC/ ST, PMAY, AAY, Most backward classes, tea garden, forest dwellers, and Islands, were added. The second phase of the scheme aims to provide eight crore connections to the women members of the families.

Ujjwala Scheme 2.0: - Under Scheme 2.0, the Modi Government would distribute 1 crore LPG cylinders in this financial year to the poor along with free refill and a stove. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in the annual budget, announced that 1 crore poor women would be benefitted this year.
What are the Benefits of the Ujjwala Scheme?
Official Aware of the Development told the media daily HT that under the second phase of the scheme free refill worth Rs 800 and a stove would be provided to the beneficiaries.
How to apply for Ujjwala Scheme?
One can apply for Ujjwala Scheme via online or offline mode. The enrolment procedure requires minimal paperwork.
Online Mode: The applicant can go to the official website – pmujjwalayojna.com and can download the application form and after filling it one has to submit it to the nearest LPG centre.
Offline Mode: Forms would be available and submitted to the nearest LPG centre.

Here are some of the criteria for the scheme:
- The applicant must be a woman.
- The women must belong to the aforementioned seven categories.
- The age of the woman must be above 18 years.
- The woman must have a BPL card and a ration card.
- There should be no LPG connection available in the family.
