The Farmers' march to Delhi on Wednesday ended on a tragic note after a 21-year-old protestor died due to bullet injuries on his head. Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher on Thursday shared a picture in which Haryana Police officials were caught on cam firing at protesting farmers with an SLR. Haryana Police, Paramilitary forces & anti-riot squad resorted to tear gas, and rubber bullets shelling on protesting farmers on Wednesday. When the faceoff between farmers and Police intensified, a bullet reportedly hit the 21-year-old farmers head at Khanauri border, and due to this, he died.  

 

The protester who died at Khanauri border has been identified as Shubhkaran Singh. He was aged between 21 and 22. He is the son of Charanjeet Singh of Ballo village in Bathinda district and has two sisters. Notably, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said, "We did not send any youth at the front, instead leaders themselves went peacefully. The way they attacked us (with tear gas shells), everyone saw that. We have never refused for talks, but it is not possible to hold discussions in such an environment."

 

Apart from Pandher, SKM (Non-Political) leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal said that a farmer part of the protest also died and the unions will carry out his last rites. 

 

Farmers' Protest suspended for two days

 

Farmers on Wednesday announced to suspend the 'Delhi Chalo' march for two days, and will decide their next course of action on Friday evening. The decision was announced by farmers' leader Sarwan Singh Pandher while addressing the media. Farmers have been protesting at the Punjab-Haryana borders for the past few days to press the Centre into accepting their demands on minimum support price (MSP) for crops and other issues.

 

Sarwan Singh Pandher talking to the media said, "We have told the government that you can kill us but please don't oppress the farmers. We request the Prime Minister to come forward and put an end to this protest by announcing a law on the MSP guarantee for the farmers...The country will not forgive such a govt...There are paramilitary forces deployed in the villages of Haryana...What crime have we committed?... We have made you the Prime Minister. We never thought that the forces would oppress us this way...Please protect the Constitution and let us peacefully head towards Delhi. This is our right..."
