There was a dispute between Nihangs and police over the closure of a liquor shop near Garha Road in Jalandhar, Punjab. The dispute escalated so much that the Nihangs attacked the police with sharp weapons. Police have detained about five Nihangs in this regard including 2 minors. According to reports, the SHO of Police Station division-6 and ACP Model Town were injured in the incident.
ACP Model Town Harjinder Singh informed that he had received information that the shop was being forcibly closed by the Nihangs near PIMS Hospital. It is being told that the police had come to investigate a matter of ‘threatening boards’ being put up outside the shop that was attacked by the Nihangs.
According to the information received, Nihangs had camped near the liquor shop. All the people used to live there by putting up tents. Recently, Nihangs had put up a board near the shop, on which it was written that if any person is seen drinking alcohol here, he will be killed.
It is being told that 2 minors are also included among the Nihangs taken into custody. According to reports, ACP and SHO have sustained injuries on their hands. The police informs that the matter is currently being investigated. The police have also recorded the entire dispute which will be made public by the police after some time. The police have started processing legal action against the Nihangs.
The police have registered an FIR number 62 dated 21-06-2024 in Police Station Division 7 under sections 307, 353, 186, 160, 148 and 149 IPC and the accused have been arrested.
