Jalandhar police has detained Bharaitya Janta Party's Ajay Joshi, the president of Punjab transport cell with six boxes of illicit liquor. A case has been registered at Paragpur under the Excise Act.
The BJP has released information in the evening yesterday and suspended him from the post.
Paragpur police station incharge SI Surinderpal said that on Monday, the police had blocked the Paragpur highway. In the meantime, a Volkswagen car (PB-07-AN-9440) coming from Ludhiana was stopped and searched and 6 boxes of illicit liquor was found.
According to the police, Ajay Joshi used to bring cheap liquor from Ludhiana and sell it in Jalandhar. The police have arrested the accused and filed a charge sheet.
However, in the late evening, the accused was granted bail. BJP released a statement after Ajay Joshi's arrest.
BJP state general secretary and in-charge of Jalandhar, Subhash Sharma issued a statement in the matter late evening saying that the BJP Transport Cell state president Ajay Joshi has been relieved of all responsibility of the party for registering a criminal case.
