A man was brutally murdered on Delhi-Singhu border, the main stage of protesting farmers. The deceased has been identified, however, attackers remain undiscovered. Police have filed FIR against the unknown.

"A body was discovered hanging with hands and legs severed at the site of a farmers' protest (Kundli, Sonipat) around 5 a.m. today. There is no information on who is responsible, but an FIR has been filed against an unknown person. The investigation of viral video is ongoing, and rumours will continue to circulate," DSP Hansraj was quoted as saying.

The semi-naked body was discovered around 5 am on Friday with chopped hand and leg, according to a police inspector who arrived with a team at the scene.

The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Lakhbir Singh, a resident of Punjab's Tarn Taran. The Dalit man was accused of desecrating the Guru Granth Sahib, the Sikhs' holy book, according to reports.

According to initial reports, the murder took place in Kundli, Haryana's Sonipat district, by Nihangs, a 'warrior' Sikh group.

The event has already enraged the farmers, who initially refused to allow the police to visit there. The body was later allowed to be taken to a nearby civil hospital by officials from the Kundli police station.

Farmers have been protesting the centre's new farm rules at Singhu (on the Delhi border) for over a year and multiple farmer camps have been built up on the border in recent months.
