After the Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed the anticipatory bail plea of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) senior leader Bikram Majithia in connection with a drugs case, Senior Congress leader Alka Lamba has welcomed the verdict and demanded immediate arrest of Majithia.

She termed it a victory for the Congress government, led by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, in a fight against menace of drugs in the state.

Addressing the media here at Punjab Congress headquarters along with Rajya Sabha MP and AICC in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir, Rajni Patil, Alka Lamba said that a case was registered against Bikram Singh Majithia by the Punjab government on December 20, 2021. “Majithia did not get any relief from the court at the local level, and then the High Court granted him interim bail. But the lawyers of the state government worked hard and today the honorable High Court has rejected the bail plea of Majithia,” she said while adding that this has also given a befitting reply to the BJP which helped Majithia getting bail earlier.

Lamba appealed to the Election Commission to instruct the police to arrest Majithia at the earliest and put him behind bars.

Showing photographs to the media persons, Alka Lamba, said that Majithia had links with Maninder Singh Bittu Aulakh, Satpreet Satta and Anwar Masih, who were involved in drug smuggling. She blamed Majithia for giving shelter to these smugglers while highlighting that Anwar Masih was held with 194 kg of heroin.

Referring to the FIR registered against Majithia, Lamba said that between 2007 and 2017, Majithia misused his power and promoted drug smuggling in the state.
