Political controversy erupts after Jharkhan CM announces ‘Free Shrouds’, BJP calls it height of immaturity

Jharkhand’s BJP unit has said that the state is unfortunate, after the decision of the state government of ‘free shroud distribution’.

On Monday, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in a virtual meeting with his Cabinet colleagues declared that “Nobody will have to buy ‘shrouds (Kaffan)’ in Jharkhand as it will be made available to everyone for free all over the state.”

BJP leaders were quick to react on the development, and termed the decision as highly insensitive and went on to compared it with a popular Hindi saying “Andher Nagri Chupat Raja”. 

BJP leaders said that instead of distributing free medicines, ration the JMM-led alliance has decided to distribute free shrouds to the people of the state.

BJP State President Deepak Prakash has said, “This is probably for the first time that despite focusing on public health, the priority of any government has been confined to death and shrouds. It shows that how unprepared this government is for the ongoing second wave and the possible third wave of coronavirus being speculated by health experts.”

The Jharkhand Mukti Morch (JMM) replied to the BJP’s comment and tweeted, “Hemant Soren government is also giving free vaccines. But you and your poor politics, you have only noticed the free shrouds.” Later, Hemant retweeted the JMM’s post and criticized BJP’s government over the condition of Uttar Pradesh during this second wave.”

His post read, “Maybe you like the sight of the bodies floating on River Ganga, bodies buried in the sand, the bodies of the poor attacked by dogs and vultures in Uttar Pradesh”.
