Following PM Modi’s meeting with the Education minister and top officers, the CBSE board exam for class 10 has been cancelled and class 12 has been postponed because of a steep surge in coronavirus cases in the country. Students, parents, politicians and various states have urged the Centre to rethink the decision of conducting board exams offline. This announcement will affect over 35 lakh students. The CBSE exams for Class 12, which were to be held from May 4 to June 14, have been postponed, said Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank in tweets. A decision on fresh dates will be taken on June 1, he said, adding that students will have at least 15 days' notice before the exams.
Meanwhile, a meme fest has taken over Twitter, with students celebrating the decision, while several leaders who were requesting the government to cancel the board exams have lauded Modi for taking the decision. The Congress party on its official Twitter handle wrote, "well done Modiji", and Arvind Kejriwal said, "I am glad that the exams have been cancelled/postponed. This is a great relief for lakhs of students and their parents.”
Students too have shown their apprehensions regarding the cancellation of the exams. Many class 12 students feel this would hamper their future while students of class 10 are rejoicing another leap. “This decision has come as a relief to me. I contracted Covid a few days ago. It is really difficult to study. The virus mentally affects a student”: Tarini Kapur, Class 10 student said.

“Cancellation is not the right thing to do. Class 12 boards are a gateway for students to colleges. It is not fair to cancel them outright. Entrances might get messed up because of it”, said Aneesh Takkar, class 12 student.
