After Diwali celebrations, the air quality in multiple Punjab cities has deteriorated to extreme levels, and has started causing various health issues. Several residents are experiencing breathing difficulties and eye-related problems because the poor AQI.
Although some districts in Punjab have seen slight improvements in their AQI, several other districts remain highly polluted. The most polluted cities include Amritsar and Ludhiana. These cities have shown slight improvement as Amritsar’s AQI dropped from over 200 to 188. However, Khanna, Mandi Gobindgarh, Jalandhar, and Patiala has still reported AQI levels above 200 indicating very poor air quality.
As per reports, rain can potentially improve the AQI levels but the Meteorological Department has predicted no rain in the coming days due to the pressure over the Bay of Bengal. This pressure is affecting weather patterns and preventing typical seasonal changes in North India. This issue has also halted snowfall in higher areas of Himachal Pradesh and has delayed the arrival of winter in North India.
