It is said that unique problems require unique solutions. Well, this is what Indians living in the US have opted for to beat the deadline given US President Donald Trump linked to birthright citizenship. As per reports, a race-like scenario is being witnessed in the medical fraternity in the US. As per TOI, pregnant women are actively inquiring about the delivery of their child before 20 February in America. According to the report, an Indian-origin gynecologist said that she has received about 20 such calls in which pregnant women want to undergo C-section i.e. surgery for premature delivery.
According to the report, many Indian women want to have children in the eighth or ninth month, before February 20. Dr. S.D. Rama of New Jersey said that such cases have increased after Trump's announcement. She said that one woman wants delivery in the seventh month itself. For this, she came with her husband and asked for the delivery date.
Dr. S.G. Mukkala, a gynecologist from Texas, expressed concern over the damage caused by premature birth. She said that it is possible to have a premature baby, but this greatly increases the risk for the mother and the child. She said that premature delivery can cause problems like underdeveloped lungs, damage to the nervous system, and low weight in children.
For the unversed, US President Donald Trump has decided to end the right to birthright citizenship by issuing an executive order. In such a situation, children of illegal immigrants or people living on temporary visas who will be born in America will not get citizenship. Trump has given 30 days to implement this order. This deadline is ending on 19 February. This is the reason why many pregnant women want to give birth to a child before 20 February.
More on US Birthright Citizenship
Birthright citizenship means automatic citizenship for a child born in America. As per US media reports, the order signed by Trump on US Birthright Citizenship states that the federal government will not issue 'documents recognizing US citizenship' to any child born on American soil, whose parents have lived in the country illegally or who have lived legally but temporarily i.e. on a temporary visa.
The order states that it will only apply to those individuals who are born in the US after 30 days from the date of this order. Trump's order means that apart from undocumented immigrants, it will also affect those living legally on temporary work visas.
