Spurs seized the lead shortly after the 10-minute mark when a dangerous Son Heung-Min cross was deflected into the net by Bretford's Sergi Canos.

After breaking in behind the defenders and running onto a through pass with just the keeper to beat, Brentford's Alvaro Fernandez did brilliantly to block a Harry Kane shot early in the second half.

On a fast counter-attack in the 65th minute, Spurs increased their advantage when Sergio Reguilon found Son at the back post for the simplest of finishes into an open goal.

Spurs delivered their greatest 90 minutes under Antonio Conte so far, a week after an awful Europa Conference League group stage defeat at Slovenian underdogs NS Mura and four days after a pointless journey to Burnley for a game that was postponed due to snow.

Tottenham's previous triumph, at home against Leeds United, was significantly more measured.

Tottenham were poor in the first half of that game before rebounding with a much superior second 45 minutes, while Brentford dominated the game throughout.

After his scathing statements during the last-gasp loss in Slovenia, Conte would have wanted exactly this kind of response.

Conte stated, "It was a nice effort against a dangerous team." "I'm pleased because the players have demonstrated a high level of devotion and enthusiasm.

"It's a positive response [after last week]. You can learn a lot from a loss, but now we have to focus on another Premier League game [against Norwich City] on Sunday.

Although Tottenham's high-tempo effort against Thomas Frank's squad could have resulted in more goals, the night was a success for the club, despite Kane's league scoring woes. This season, the striker has only scored one league goal and is being overshadowed by striking partner Son.
