Global star Priyanka Chopra, soon to be seen in Citadel, spoke to the media in an interview about Bollywood casting. Priyanka said that actors' casting in Bollywood should be based on merit and not on politics and drama.
This is not the first time that Priyanka has talked about politics in Bollywood. During this time, she talked about how the industry had sidelined her, after which Priyanka had decided to leave Bollywood and pursue a career in music. “Talented people are now coming out of the industry,” said Priyanka.
In an interview with the Indian Express, Priyanka said, "Casting in Bollywood should be based on talent, not politics. A lot has changed in the Hindi film industry in the recent past. Many talented people are now coming out of the industry."
Remembering her early days, Priyanka said, "When I started my career, the environment was completely different. The work of casting should be the responsibility of casting directors, not politics and drama. Opportunities and hard work should be given importance, not favoritism.”
Priyanka's statement comes in the wake of the nepotism debate that has been going on in Bollywood for the past few years. Many actors, including Kangana Ranaut, have spoken about how the film industry promotes nepotism and favors star kids.
