Prominent social media firms except for Twitter furnished report on new rules compliance: Sources

All prominent social media firms except for the Twitter has furnished the details on the compliance with the latest, IT rules said government sources. Firms that have complied with the norms include Koo, Sharechat, Telegram, LinkedIn, Google, Facebook and WhatsApp.

 

The details produced by the companies before the government include the names of their chief compliance officer, nodal contact person and grievance officer.

 

However, the latest dissent move of Twitter has hinted at the un-ending war with the Centre govt. It may be noted here that on Thursday night, Twitter has informed the government that it had appointed a nodal officer who would also work as the grievance officer, as stated by the new ‘intermediary guidelines.’

 

However, the Centre is not satisfied with Twitter half-compliance status.

According to the government sources, the micro-blogging site has appointed a lawyer who works for a law firm in India as its nodal-cum-grievance officer. Under the latest ‘Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code’ (Information Technology Rules 2021), the companies have been directed to employ a nodal officer, grievance officer, chief compliance officer from India itself.

 

The sources have further added that Twitter is yet to furnish the details before Centre about its third appointment that is of a compliance officer.
