The commuters from the Jalandhar-Pathankot National Highway will face hindrances at Bhogpur, and starting April 23, the NH will remain shut indefinitely. It is expected that this blockage will cause problems for thousands of travelers.

The reason behind the Highway Blockade -

According to the reports, the major reason behind the blockage is a dispute over the new CNG plant, which is being constructed inside the cooperative sugar mill at Bhogpur. The local groups, including the Bhogpur Market Association, several farmer’s unions, leaders of several political parties, and some residents, have appealed to stop the plant construction immediately.

A memorandum was shared with the Jalandhar Deputy Commissioner and SSP by a group that was spearheaded by Adampur MLA Sukhwinder Singh Kotli. According to the memorandum, if the construction work of the plant does not stop by April 23, then the groups will launch an indefinite protest and block the Jalandhar-Jammu National Highway at Bhogpur.

As per the details shared, the date for the protest is Wednesday, April 23, from 10 am onwards. The location selected for highway blockage is the Bhogpur section of the Jalandhar-Pathankot Highway. The possible action of the groups will be a complete road blockade, which is also called chakka jam until all the demands are met.

According to certain reports, this highway blockade was called after the latest meeting between the protesters and the district officials did not end with a satisfactory conclusion.

Reportedly, the key organizers of this highway shutdown include Vishal Bahil, Parminder Singh, Ashwan Bahal, Amarjit Singh Chaulang, Charanjit Singh Dalla, Gurdeep Singh, Amritpal Singh, Rakesh Baga, Gulshan Arora, Ricky Bedi, Bittu Bahal, Lucky (former sarpanch, Moga), Saranjit Saini, and Nitish Arora.

Travel Advisory: If you need to drive between Jalandhar and Pathankot (or onward to Jammu) after April 23, plan alternate routes or expect major delays.
