The Aam Aadmi Party on Friday finally announced its first list of candidates for the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.

Posting the list of candidates on Twitter, the party asserted it is all set for upcoming polls which it labelled as Mission 2022. "#Mission2022 we are ready," AAP Punjab tweeted.

The party has announced the candidacies of Jai Kishan Roudi from Garhshankar, Baljinder Kaur from Talwandi Sabo and Saravjit Kaur Manuke from Jagraon and other seven MLAs.

From Nihal Singh, Manjeet Bilaspur will contest from Aam Aadmi Party’s seat, Kultar Singh Sandhwan from Kotkaoura, Principal Budhiram from Budhlada and from Dirab, Harpal Singh Cheema will run for the party.

Aman Arora, Gurmeet Singh “Meet” Hayer and Kulwant Pandori will contest from Sunam, Barnala and Mehal Kalan, respectively.

All ten are first-time legislators.

The list was released after Rupinder Kaur Ruby, the party's sitting MLA from Bathinda Rural (reserved), switched sides to the Congress on Wednesday, and then Jagtar Singh Jagga Hissowal, who represents Raikot (reserved), openly supported chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi in the state assembly.

Hissowal later stated that he will not join the Congress, but his actions have left the AAP leadership stunned.

Harpal Cheema, after Ruby left the AAP, stated that she was not getting the AAP ticket and thus switched the party. When party leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira rebelled against the AAP leadership, both Ruby and Hissowal supported him.

Assembly elections are scheduled for seven states in 2022. Five states — Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa, and Manipur — will hold elections early next year, while Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat will hold elections later in the year. Apart from Punjab, where Congress rules all other states are controlled by BJP.
