APS Deol, who was appointed Advocate-General for Punjab after Captain Amarinder stepped down as CM, on Monday resigned from his post and handed over the letter to Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi.
As APS Deol had been counsel for former top cop Sumedh Singh Saini and IG Paramraj Singh Umaranangal, both accused in the Behbal Kalan police firing case, his appointed was objected by several Congress leaders including PPCC President Navjot Sidhu.
Objecting APS Deol and DGP Iqbal Sahota appointed, Navjot Sidhu even resigned from his post as PPCC President saying he can’t compromise on Punjab’s core issues.
Besides, the Alliance of Sikh Organisations, a conglomerate of various Sikh groups, had recently demanded withdrawal of appointments of the DGP and A-G while criticising the Chief Minister on the emotive issue.
It seems as elections are around the corner, Punjab government is in no mood to take any risk and they have finally considered replacing APS Deol.

Moreover, as per sources in the government, the search for finding Deol’s replacement had already begun. Regarding replacing DGP Sahota, who is holding the additional charge, the Punjab government has already sent the panel of officers to the Union Public Service Commission for the appointment of a regular DGP.
