The government is not only updating the strategy for the farming sector with its recent bills, which have been opposed by the people engaged in the entire chain of farming for whatever reasons, but also ensuring that the promises made earlier as well as the risks taken by the farmers when they chose to grow the crops are honored.
Punjab and Haryana were two days ahead of the other states in beginning the paddy procurement. The two states began on September 26th while the others began on September 28th.
As on September 3, the overall procurement of paddy for the
2020-21 kharif marketing season is about 5.73 lakh ton. The buy price is the
Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Rs 1,888 per quintal for the A grade while Rs 1,868 per quintal for the common grade has been fixed, for the current year.
In a pioneering move, probably to handle the concerns of the
people employed in the farming sector, the government has started releasing
data of the procured paddy daily. This should make clear the government’s
intention of honoring the MSP now as well as in the future.
