Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced in a post on X that the family of Shubhkaran Singh, the youth in his early 20s who died from a head injury allegedly due to a bullet at Khanauri Border, will receive compensation of 1 crore. Along with this, Shubhkaran’s younger sister will also be given a Government Job. He also said that legal action will be taken against the guilty officials.
Shubhkaran was present at the Khanauri Border in protest along with his fellow farmers, who were pelted with tear gas shells and rubber bullets by the Haryana Police. Shubhkaran was in his early 20s and was under Rs. 18 lakhs of debt according to reports. He was the son of Charanjit Singh, a resident of Ballo village of Bathinda. He was an only brother of 2 sisters and his mother had died when he was young.
CM Bhagwant Mann wrote in the twitter post, “Financial assistance of Rs 1 crore will be given by the Punjab Government to the family of Shubhkaran Singh, who was martyred during the farmers' protest at Khanauri border, and his younger sister will be given a government job. Appropriate legal action will be taken against the culprits. We are performing our duty. (Translated)”
