Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on 10th March 2023 presented the financial budget of state for the FY 2023-2024. This is the second budget that was presented by Aam Aadmi Party in the Vidhan Sabha. Earlier, interim budget was presented by them, this year the party announced its full-fledged budget. The main focus of every person residing in Punjab was on new subsidy schemes for locals, amount of debt on state and allocation of funds for same, amount given to education and healthcare sector. Punjab Government presented Budget for Rs. 1, 96,462 crores which is 26% more than last year.
Punjab Government has this year assigned Rs. 10,523 crores for law and order which is 11% is more than the previous year. While assigning the amount to Punjab’s law and order Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that there are certain evil forces trying to disturb the harmony of the state but they will not let it happen. He also added that some things took place earlier which were combated by police forces very bravely.
Post this, it is likely that the evil forces referred to were somewhere a point towards Waris Punjab De Chief Amritpal Singh. Amritpal Singh a few weeks back along with supporters attacked the Ajnala Police Station for the release of his close aid Lovepreet Singh Toofan. During this, 6 policemen were badly injured as it was alleged that they did not have enough weapons and equipments to fight such a huge crowd. Due to this, it is likely that Punjab Government has decided a higher provision amount for Punjab Police Department. Punjab Govt has also announced that special training will be given to them to fight against huge crowds disturbing the harmony of state. There might be chances that due to the tense situation created by Amritpal Singh, Punjab Govt has decided to take this step. Somewhere it wouldn’t be wrong to say Punjab Government’s increasing provision decision was due to Waris Punjab De Chief.
For the unversed, Waris Punjab De Chief Amritpal Singh’s close aid Lovepreet Singh Toofan was arrested by Ajnala Police for kidnapping and assaulting a person. This led to the announcement of a peaceful protest by Amritpal Singh outside the concerned police station. However, the protest did not remain peaceful and turned into a violent clash where policemen were attacked with swords and stones.
