Ludhiana experienced the coldest winter it has suffered in 54 years. According to IMD, January 22 was the coldest day in Ludhiana yet. The maximum temperature was recorded to be 9.4°C. Dr. Pavneet Kaur Kangra, the head of the meteorological department of PAU, says that it has not been as cold in 54 years as it was on January 22.
On the same day, the minimum temperature of Amritsar was recorded to be 7.2°C, 5.6°C in Ludhiana (0.5 below normal), 5.8°C in Patiala (0.6 below normal), 7.7°C in Pathankot, 5.0°C in SBS (Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar), 4.5°C in Gurdaspur.
A slight increase of 0.2°C was recorded in the maximum temperature of Punjab. However, it was still 7.7°C below norma. The highes temperature of 12.2°C was recorded in Barnala and Moga. The meteorological department has issued an alert in Punjab for the next 4 days, which will be accompanied by extreme cold and dense fog.
